In one of those strange quirks of fate, a publisher who had recently moved to Garlieston responded to the advert and so the collaboration began.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Evans\u2019 objective was to record the somewhat forgotten role played by Scotland in the development of Mulberry Harbours. That the harbours were developed and tested in the Scottish Solway around Garlieston was not well known.<\/p>\n<p>Publication of the book was underwritten by Garlieston residents and over several years sold 3000 copies. Quite an achievement.<\/p>\n<p>The book, compiled by Jane Evans, Liz Palmer and Roy Walter, is now described by military historians as:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>&#8220;&#8230; outstanding and a key text in the study of the Mulberry Harbours.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An exhibition was also mounted.
